First, let me say that this is my one and only post regarding the Mike Brown tradegy. Secondly, let me say that I am certainly not happy about the verdict, not from a racial perspective, but from a judicial one. Because this situation isnt just about race, but accountability, justice for poor socioeconomic communities and juducial responsibilities. Yes, it saddens me deeply when another young black male is savagely killed, but it also saddens me when anyone is senselessly and savagely killed. We all have our opinions and theories of what happened, but truth be told, we only know what weve heard thru the news and read on social media. Regardless of the speculations, its a sad situation. What further insults this matter, is that justice can never be changed until we exercise the right to vote, not for a single big election, but every election. Sadly, 52% of the voters registered in Ferguson prior to the Brown murder were white. It was only after the murder that voter activist registered some 3,287 new voters. After the shooting! Maybe if those new registered voters were already registered and voting, they could have been on the grand jury and faced the same task as those who sat on it. Things dont change with riots, but persistence and sacrifice, i.e. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Medgar Evers, Daisy Bates, etc. Let our voices be heard through our actions. Be in City Council Meetings, Legislative Hearings, County Board Meetings, School Board Meetings - wherever we need to be. By the way, there were 3 murders reported in Richmond Saturday; 2 in Buckingham; A School Threat towards teachers/students in Dinwiddie; Major Fight in Clover Hill High School ... All in less than a weeks time and I didnt hear anyone getting mad as hell about that or even mention it. Trust and believe that God is in Ferguson and for whatever wrongs were done, vengeance will be His. Looking in the mirror, I say - its time to be the people of God He has called each of us to be. Its time to make changes in our communities by praying for Gods intervention, lifting our voices and be heard, and our hands and feet to be all that we can be to make a difference in this world. Im ready to walk the walk, are you. As Mark Holmberg would say, thats MY TAKE ON things. Blessings & Love!!!
