First marathon in the books...dont read too much into that first, - TopicsExpress

First marathon in the books...dont read too much into that first, at this beaten up point I honestly couldnt say one way or the other if itll ever happen again. A few parting thoughts though...the former athlete in me certainly expected a better time when I signed up for this thing, but the disappointment in that aspect really isnt too crushing. Ive been limping along since July, so just to finish was cool. Even in my worst moments today, quitting was never an option, coulda done that three months ago...it wasnt about to happen 3 miles from pay dirt. (I may or may not have pointed and shouted NO at an EMT that had started moving toward me at one point late in the race...) I started strong today and had to finish at a much slower pace once the legs werent cooperating. Its alright. Its a far bigger deal to me that so many friends and family supported me in this and donated to World Vision. We changed 35 lives through this! 35 kids with clean water, and all the health & opportunity that comes with it! Thats no small thing...I wrote 35 on my arm with a Sharpie this morning...it was all I needed to keep pressing on. Its also a far bigger deal to me that I got to meet and really get to know so many incredible people on our group runs. Between gaining friendships with such quality people and just everything you learn about yourself putting yourself through something like this: the depths of love, compassion and perseverance...I probably shouldve written a 36 on my arm instead. Im forever changed from this experience too. Cant strongly enough recommend giving it legit consideration if TWV ever brings their marathon fever to your attention.
