First, may I say, Thank You to, Jared S. Wells, for including me in this group. (Funny, I was going to call you today, Jared.) I have perused the page and very much like what I see. You dear souls, Rock! One evening, I stopped into our local convenience store and noticed the usually cheerful fellow behind the counter seemed a bit down. I said hello and asked how he was. Ive been better was his reply. Oh my, is there anything I can do to help?, I inquired. No, but thank you for asking he responded. He then went on to tell me his grandfather had passed away and he was the one in charge of the arrangements. I listened intently and then offered him a hug. He hesitated for a brief moment and then said, Yes, I would love a hug! We hugged, and hugged, and hugged. He said he already was beginning to feel better! :-D A few weeks went by before I had the need to stop at that store again. There he was, his usual Big Smile greeted me as I approached the counter. We exchanged some quick pleasantries, as there were other people in the store. I paid for my purchase and as I was about to leave, he motioned to me and asked if I could wait a minute. Sure, I said. As soon as he was able, he came out from behind the counter, looked me straight in the eye and said, I have been waiting for you to come back. Do you remember that hug you gave me? I smiled and nodded affirmatively, You have no idea what that hug did for me. That was the first hug I have ever had in my life - besides my girlfriend, that is. WHAT, I asked incredulously, Your first hug? He continued, I was raised by my grandfather, and he was a tough old coot, no hugging was allowed...ever! As my eyes welled up with tears, he said may I give you a hug? I will let you guess my answer. Thank you for the opportunity to tell that story. A HUG...what a feeling!
