First, no one panic ! But Im in an ambulance being transported from Salzburg to Munich. It started the night of the 23rd when I was attending the Opera Rigoletto in Vienna with my extended family. About 10 minutes into the first act I started seeing what looked like gnats flying around. That was the key. Luckily I emailed the doc who did my cataracts surgery last year. He replied yesterday evening saying GET TO AN EYE DOC RIGHT NOW. The concierge at our Vienna hotel called his counterpart at the hotel we were enroute to by express train in Salzburg. On arriving Salzburg I took a taxi to the hospital. When I got to the teaching hospital they knew me by name and were waiting. Never ever underestimate the power of the European concierge network. I have a detaching retina, my right eye, as of now, from 9 to 12 oclock. The Salzburg docs talked to the Munich docs. Salzburg medical school could not perform the surgery until Monday and more might deteriorate by then. Munich will fit me in as soon as they can, perhaps as early as early Friday morning. Im roaring down the autobahn in a white and fluorescent yellow ambulance as I text. Turns out Herr Professor Doctor Salzburg wanted me to Munich fast. Driver front left. My brother front right. Im in the back with the EMT. But, my suitcase strapped on the Gurney and Im sitting in the second EMTs seat. Later
