First of all, let me say, things have smoothed out for me physically. Don Kennedy’s widow, Carol Kennedy, called me concerned about my health. When I told her my symptoms, she immediately shared with me how Don had experienced exactly the same thing, and it was all due to dehydration. Funny, all the tests they put me through in the hospital, not one word was mentioned about hydration. They didn’t even set me up with a saline IV. So we googled “Symptoms for Dehydration” and I have had every one of them. I immediately started drinking water with a little Gatorade. Carol also told me how when football players experience muscle cramps, severe Charlie horses (like I was having), they put a couple of alka-seltzers in a glass of water and within five minutes the muscle cramps relax and the Charlie horses go away. So, I’ve been doing that as well! To top it all off, I’ve been on a heavy antibiotic program battling a skin infection on my right ear, and the instructions on the bottle of pills said in bold CAPITAL letters to drink lots of water with this medication. I was spending far too much time in the hot Fresno sun playing with my concrete retaining wall blocks, sweating like a draft horse – doing all the right things that put me in a very dire state. All this to say, I haven’t had one negative symptom since I started drinking more water with a bit of Gatorade and an occasional alka-seltzer tablet thrown in for good measure. Having discovered and addressed the error of my ways, which Mari has been doing her best to reveal to me for several weeks, “You come in out of that sun, it’s too hot out there,” and I would stubbornly reply, “Yeah, yeah, I’ll be right in.” Then I’d spend another couple of hours tidying things up in the 100+ degree Fresno sun. But now that my physical health is returning to normal, I will still be retiring from my Trippin’ The Sixties shows. I may do the occasional few things here and there, but they will be far and few between.
