First of all sending condolences to the grieving familys back home. Been doing some reading nd research, Did you know Sipiwesk Lake was the fifth town that suppose to be part of Pimichikamak Territory? Pimichikamak treaty people today consists of Thicket Portage, Pikwitonei and the main being Cross Lake. And also Wabowden. Treaty 276. Due to Kelsey Dam being build back in the day (1958) it had made them move due to massive unexpected flooding of lands, This included my own family, The Richards, Amazing, truly amazing of history unknown. Due to this movement back then it also created the town Mescanakaneek (Wabowden) which was named after a fur buyer W. A Bowden which back then the people who moved to wabowden followed the railway and most followed the trade route that lead to Cross Lake. I always had a special feeling bout that sipiwesk lake, my dad always told me its where they grew up all there life. Anyways its nice to know the history of my own familys background.
