First of all this is all about money. College Board is losing - TopicsExpress

First of all this is all about money. College Board is losing money to the ACT and the growing number of colleges (usually smaller, private colleges that need to attract more applicants) going to test optional. I have said since this latest version of the SAT came out that this test is ridiculous. Too long. Colleges dont use the essay portion for admissions and that it was just a money grab. My students have always done better on the ACT and if they were to only take one exam, I always recommend the ACT. I still do not like to see these tests be such a big factor on college admissions but bigger and more selective schools must use them since they get so many applications and high schools are so different in how they grade. Regardless, the best indicator of future college success is a students grades/transcript and the number of challenging classes (Algebra 2/Trig., Chemistry, A.P. and college concurrent classes) that the student has taken. If a student does very well on SATs/ACTs, more than likely, they are ready for college. Doing average or slightly below average does not mean a student is not ready for college.
