First official IEP for the boy this year. My boy has come a million miles in the last six months and even more from a year or year and a half ago. They have NO idea but they are very positive and tolerant and have given the Lexi experience the title: Mickeys Wild Ride because the boy goes up one day and down the next but is still moving forward. All agree that having Mickey with him gives him the confidence and strength to weather his own storms. They have no idea how much courage and strength he has to get up every day and try as hard as he does. Between the Autistic Spectrum Disorder and the Mental Illness he pushes through on a moment to moment bases, I think he is one of my heroes. Testing showed that my son is coming back...it looks more like the incredibly bright kid who compensates for his significant challenges with attitude and task avoidance. Thats the boy I know and love. Seemingly the only ongoing damage from the psychotic breaks is memory loss and memory challenges. The team sees a bright future for him and will accept nothing less then leaving that open as an option if he so chooses. For that I am very very grateful. I did have to laugh and wonder about them when the school psych said, I would NEVER have guessed you were sensory seeking...I laughed so hard I cried. She didnt get it...apparently he doesnt spin pvc pipes for hours at school or spin in a chair until he finally slumps over and falls out, or bang kitchen utensils for hours just to hear the noise of it...you can see why I laughed. I laughed HARD. :)
