First rehearsal after the Christmas break for Chelmsford SA Band - TopicsExpress

First rehearsal after the Christmas break for Chelmsford SA Band last night and I decided that, as it was also our first rehearsal since the Promotion to Glory of Lt-Col Ray Steadman-Allen, we should play through only RSA music so that we could reflect on the musical legacy of this giant of the SA banding world. Our programme for the rehearsal consisted of: Blacklands Silver Star His Guardian Care Via Dolorosa (The Way of Sorrow) In Quiet Pastures Romans 8 - A brass celebration The Scarlet Jersey Consecration Hymn It is traditional for the bandmaster to bring the first bible thought of the new year to the band, and as part of this we watched again this wonderful video of RSA https://youtube/watch?v=W2vw_wqy55M I brought the band a bible reading from Romans 12: 1-13 and reflect on the words of advice that Ray gave to musicians towards the end of the video: Keep your priorities right, take pride in what you do but don’t think more of yourself than you should, it’s a great thing to be involved in something bigger than yourself, try and find your role and stick with it through whatever happens…go for it and stay with it I asked the band to take these principles on board during this new year, and asked them whilst playing the RSA arrangement of Consecration Hymn to reconsecrate themselves as Salvationist musicians.
