First rule of understanding humanity: People prefer lies to the truth. This is because the truth is usually uncomfortable and to accept it would demand that they make uncomfortable changes. People love to tell lies, and they love to be told lies, so long as the lies make them feel more comfortable. Most of the lies they tell, and the lies they are told, are not consciously understood by them to be lies, because they suppress that knowledge in their pursuit of comfort. Most of the time they believe the lies they have been told, and the lies they tell, but of course they often consciously lie as well to achieve greater comfort.
