First term Democratic incumbent in the 36th Congressional - TopicsExpress

First term Democratic incumbent in the 36th Congressional District, Dr. Raul Ruiz (who unseated Republican Mary Bono Mack in 2012) faces stiff opposition in November from current, CA Republican assemblyman, Brian Nestande. The Coachella Valleys Desert Sun newspapers Desert Sun Media Group has scheduled the only debate between the candidates for the evening of Friday, October 3rd. The debate will be carried on local television stations. Whether by intention, or from woeful ignorance, the Desert Sun Media Group has scheduled this event on the evening of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews. In either case, this is an outrageous act that is sure to preclude observant Jews from watching or participating in this most important political event for the district, the state, and and the nation. When I called Dr. Ruiz congressional office, a staff person stated that neither he nor his campaign staff had been aware that the debate would conflict with the observance of Yom Kippur by many voters. Many of us have already called Dr. Ruiz congressional office (760-424-8888) and his campaign office (760-459-7849) to request that the congressman demand that this debate be rescheduled by the Desert Sun. We are also calling the Desert Sun itself (760-322-8889) demanding it reschedule this important debate and make an apology to the Jewish community of the Coachella Valley for this egregious error in scheduling. I urge all voters living in our Valley to call Dr. Ruiz offices, and those of the Desert Sun, to register their outrage and their demand for the rescheduling of this candidate debate.
