First time I fell in love (in real life, not including Kristy McNichol and Tatum ONeil on TV) I was nine years old and she was amazing; like a Goddess. We were both nine years old and she lip-synced this song at a school assembly and I was mesmerized. I didnt tell her then, and I didnt even tell her two years later when she congratulated me, unbidden, on the the only homerun I ever hit in my life (perhaps figuratively, but for certain literally) on that Little League field so long ago (broke the windshield of my neighbors car, and he congratulated me too; my “Father” chastised me for the cost, but I digress), I thanked her bashfully and walked away, too shy to tell her I had loved her since I first heard her “sing”. Three years later, when we were both fourteen and she was two weeks away from moving too many miles away from a love-struck teenager with no license and no clue what to do about life, much less love, I finally told her. To my astonishment she said she had felt the same way for as long as she knew I existed, but she was moving away and and told me her best friend thought she loved me too, so we kissed, just an innocent singular moment, and we said how sorry we both were and said Goodbye. Story of my life, but I had that, and still do. Bittersweet, but still sweet...
