Firstly, as an outsider, I cannot imagine the anxiety of the families of the loved ones that have gone missing and unaccounted for. It is a trying time for Malaysia. However, is it a fair criticism of Malaysias state of affairs, as expressed in this opinion piece published in the NYtimes? How far is it true that the mishandling of information mirrors the way Malaysia is run? The defensive nature of the early press conferences, coupled with occasional attacks on the foreign media, are widely perceived as the arrogance of a government unaccustomed to global attention and accountability.
