Firstly, to whom it may concern at GCHQ or Langley – This has nothing to do with you or the Governments who hired you, so stop reading it. Go and get a proper job. Thank you to everyone who sent Sheila a birthday card (in whatever format), she was really chuffed. This past week has seen a big improvement in Sheila’s eyesight. When I was driving her down to her mum’s house on Saturday afternoon she spent quite a bit of the time describing the traffic in front of us as way of showing that one day she may get back to driving, but not for a while. She had a really good day on Saturday and it was pretty difficult to leave her back at the hospital at 5 pm. She has found that a friend of Kath Todd is in the same unit as her and so now she has a has an ally to cause mischief. Sheila started on her physio and occupational therapy yesterday so that will make a big difference to her, not necessarily in terms of having a direct impact as she can already do a lot of the things they are asking of her, but in terms of making her just generally feel better about herself and as a demonstration that she is generally ‘getting better’. The slight downside is that it will also restrict afternoon visiting a bit. Her afternoon sessions will finish about 3:30 or 4 pm so anyone looking to visit her should bear this in mind and it may be an idea to contact the ward before visiting. Both Sheila and I are talking about getting her home for the majority of the weekend, hopefully with an overnight stay on Saturday/Sunday but this is still be agreed with the hospital - fingers crossed. I have just found out that my old place of work, the former Syntex/Quintiles/Aptuit site, is to be demolished later this summer. It looks like the old story of it being returned to its former state if it was not being used as a research site are true. Alternatively it is going to be the site for the new Scottish Blood Transfusion Service headquarters. So just a short update this time and you will have noticed that the gaps between these are getting longer. As Sheila is now well on the road to recovery I will be sending these out less frequently and really only when I feel there is something worth updating you all on. Also I had a ‘day off’ on Sunday to go through to Glasgow to watch the British Cycling Road Race Championships (I am on the highlights – twice) so now I am running twice as fast to catch up. Thanks once again for all your help and support
