Fish Oil. And the LIE behind Enteric Coating. As the health - TopicsExpress

Fish Oil. And the LIE behind Enteric Coating. As the health benefits of consuming fish oil became more widely known, and the dangers of consuming too much mercury (whether accurate or overblown) became more visible in the media, more people started buying fish oil supplements. Lots of buyers of cheap fish oil complained about fishy burps, so the market came out with a band-aid instead of acknowledging a dirty secret -- that their fish oil was going rancid. They started selling fish oil capsules with enteric coating. This essentially prevents fish oil capsules from dissolving until after the pills enter the intestines. So no fishy burps. So you dont get to experience their rancid fish oil in your throat or mouth. I was one of many who had bought cheap fish oil, gotten fishy burps, and switched to enteric coating. Recently, my doctor recommended I boost my fish oil intake and suggested a pharmaceutical grade molecularly distilled fish oil. Yes, its more expensive than cheap fish oil. So I said not unless it has enteric coating. He said Yeah... I bought into that lie at first, too. Then I met an expert who basically said, have you ever bitten into a fish oil capsule? I hadnt, so I did. It was AWFUL. Then after I brushed my teeth, he smiled, and handed me another fish oil pill and said now try this one. I was hesitant, but I went along with it. And it tasted like fresh sushi. No fishy aftertaste. Thats how fresh fish oil tastes. If the fish oil tastes fishy, its already gone bad. Enteric coating masks the fraud of selling fish oil that goes bad before its even off the shelf. So I bought Ortho Moleculars Orthomega Fish Oil, which has no enteric coating. And I have had zero fishy burps over the past 6 weeks. Not one. My hope? I dont personally care if you do or dont buy high-cost fish oil, nor am I recommending one molecularly-distilled fish oil brand over another -- I only have experience with one manufacturer to share. But maybe this will stop you from buying cheap enteric coated fish oil that could be rotting away in your gut.
