Fisheries scientist Rory McAuley said the size of the two bite - TopicsExpress

Fisheries scientist Rory McAuley said the size of the two bite marks in Mr Pollard’s surfboard indicated the shark who carried out the attack was likely a single great white about 3m-4m long. This is the sole evidence that Mr Pollard was bitten by 2 great white sharks acting as a pack, when the victim himself thought it was 2 bronze whalers. There is no other evidence. There were no traces of the victim on either of the 2 great white sharks killed by Fisheries in their rapid response. The Premier got what he wanted. Fortunately there is solid evidence - the surfboard with shark bite marks. The surfboard can be documented photographically, for other scientists to review. Do the bite marks match either of the 2 sharks that were killed? Tooth and jaw pattern differs amongst shark individuals and species, so tooth marks are a fairly reliable way of identifying the shark (like a fingerprint). Great white shark bites on surfboards often contain an embedded tooth, which can conclusively identify the species in question. It doesnt matter which shark species is responsible. Sharks live in the ocean, and humans enter at their own risk. What actually does matter is whether the killing of 2 great white sharks was justified. Other scientists should be permitted to examine the evidence themselves. As a matter of scientific and forensic principle, we need to get second opinions from other independent distinguished scientists. Its a matter of principle. perthnow.au/news/western-australia/shark-attack-victim-sean-pollards-family-release-statement-saying-they-are-overwhelmed-by-support/story-fnhocxo3-1227081631470
