Fishing Report August 1, 2014 The fishing was great throughout July and August should produce more of the same. Many presentations continue to work great. Presentations include trolling both with cranks and spinners, slip bobbers, jigging, and lindy rigs. Both shore fishing and boat fishing have been producing great results. For best results when fishing from shore would be to target any of the bridges on Devils Lake. Whether it’s Six Mile Bay, Hwy 20 or 57, or one of the many other bridges, many anglers have found good luck fishing these areas. The best times to fish the bridges seems to be early morning or later in the evening, however you should still be able to get some fish during the middle of the day. Fishing from boats continues to be exceptional! There is currently a healthy population of walleye ranging from 6 to 25+ inches, so make sure you have plenty of bait so you don’t run out when sorting through the smaller fish to get to the larger fish. The bridges and towers have been really productive when jigging around them, especially on rock structure in about 15 to 20 feet of water. Pulling bottom bouncers with spinners has still been the number one technique that our guides from Mitchell’s Guide Service have been using, with cranks being a close second. The fish have not seemed to be too picky when it comes to color, however pink and white have been popular with spinners and hot steel and firetiger being popular with cranks. Good areas to target include Six Mile Bay, the Minnewaukan Flats, the Golden Highway, and the Camp Grafton shoreline east of Military Point. Fishing west of highway 57, including East Bay and East Devils Lake have been just as hot as any other spots in the lake. The majority of fish are being caught in depths of 10 to 15 feet when trolling, but are not necessarily limited to those depths. Some of the hottest fishing of the year is going on right now on Devils Lake.
