Five Arch Bridge, south of Avon, NY. Built 1856-1857 by the Genesee Valley Railroad to span the Conesus Outlet. The 200 x 12 limestone bridge was part of the Rochester - Avon - Geneseo - Mt. Morris Line. Avon became a RR hub connecting Buffalo - Rochester - Corning - Hornell. Th eline was electrified in 1907, with 13 runs daily between Rochester and Mt. Morris. In 1941 the Avon - Mt. Morris secton was abandoned and the rails removed. --Avon Preservation & Historical Societys historical marker. Theres no historical marker for the next bridge to the north that crosses the Little Conesus Creek behind a self-storage facility. You can see it easily just by driving around the back of everything. Its high up (as is this bridge) because the fill has been removed to make way for the buildings.
