Five Guys is a place that we like to go to occasionally. I love that I can eat their fries and enjoy a safe burger, too. Ive had to educate my local establishment on not putting hubbys gluten-full burger in the same bag as my food, but Ive never seen other concerns until today. Today Son (who is visiting) wanted to stop by and pick up some fries for himself after wed enjoyed steamed seafood at another local restaurant. He is gluten free and dairy free and went through the drill on the employees having to change their gloves after touching other food before they touched his. Then he casually watched while waiting, not expecting to see anything of concern. But then he saw them handle gluten-full, dairy-full burgers and cheese slices and then with those very same gloved and now contaminated gloved hands pick up uncooked fries and put them in the fryer. When he brought this up to the fellow who did it, he said, But those werent your fries, I was going to change my gloves before I did your fries. Son explained to the worker that his actions had contaminated the fryer so that anyone who is gluten free really cant eat any fries from that fryer. He and the other employees looked at him like an alien, of course, and then apologized and gave him his refund. Hes sad and Im sad that Five Guys is probably another place that we just cant trust to feed us safely. :-( Just FYI. And, yes, I will be contacting our local management soon to see if I can get their procedures changed to keep us all safe.
