Five budding designers in final to re-design the first direct arena bar first direct shortlists five entries in its arena bar design competition and it’s up to the general public to decide who wins first direct and an expert judging panel have shortlisted five entries in the competition to re-design the first direct arena bar, with budding designers now competing for public votes to become the winner. Finalists include Nick Pinnington, Felicity Dargan-Bell, Kyle Minnock, Olivia Bambrough and Lea Tiernan, who all live in the Leeds city region. The fate of the five Leeds-based finalists is now in the hands of the public, as first direct encourages friends, family, Leeds residents and arena goers to go online and vote for their favourite design concept, inspired by what makes Leeds unique and unexpected. Members of the public can view shortlisted entries and vote for their favourite by visiting firstdirect.tumblr/. Voting is open from now until Wednesday 23 July 2014. Impressed by the ideas and standard of entries received, an expert judging panel made up of first direct chief executive, Tracy Garrad, sales & marketing director at first direct arena, Tony Watson, interior design blogger, Carole King and founder of Leeds Retail Association, David Laycock, shortlisted the final entries due to their inspiring and unique concepts of ‘unexpected’ Leeds. The final mood board concepts represent a range of ideas; one entry, titled the ‘Deposit’ bar, is based around the sharing of ideas, music, art, conversation and experience, whilst another focusses on the fusion of historic industrial Leeds and the modern trade today. A third entry titled ‘Platypus’ campaigns for a cleaner and tidier Leeds. Tracy Garrad, chief executive of first direct, said: “Thank you to everyone who submitted entries and congratulations to our five finalists. We were blown away by the level of creativity we’ve seen and it’s clear we have a unique and much-loved city. “The competition offers a really special opportunity for the winner to make their mark on the city’s most iconic venue and gain some valuable design experience in the process, so we encourage everyone in Leeds to get involved and help us decide what the first direct arena bar should look like. Watch this space!” The winner, announced on Friday 25 July, will have the opportunity to help bring their ideas to life with a two-week paid design work experience with the team at first direct arena, or two sets of four luxury experience tickets at first direct arena for upcoming events.
