Five killed, four injured in Nambale accident Five people have died and four other seriously injured this morning after a lorry carrying sugarcane overturned at Nambale Junction near Nambale town. Witnesses say the lorry which was at top speed was ferrying sugarcane from Busidibu to Mumias weighbridge at Kisoko in Nambbale when the driver failed to negotiate a corner causing the lorry to overturn and fall in a ditch. Four people died on the spot while one died on the way to hospital. It took about one hour for a winch from West Kenya weighbridge and a loader from Kisoko weighbridge to arrive at the scene and remove the lorry and sugarcane which had covered three bodies. The driver jumped off the lorry before it fell and went into hiding. The accident caused a major traffic snarl up along the busy Busia-Nambale-Mayoni road which took Nambale police officers under the command of Nambale DC Francis Lenyangume and Deputy OCPD Mr. Mwongera several hours to clear it. Among the dead is one youth from Busidibu, one from Tangakona, one from Mayole in Nambale while the forth is from Kakamega county. The fifth person is yet to be identified. Busia County governor Sospeter Ojaamong arrived at the scene of the accident accompanied by Nambale township ward Rep Godfrey Odongo and appealed to drivers to be careful and care about people’s lives. Ojaamong said the county government will help families of the perished so that they bury them peacefully. The accident occurred twenty metres from a place where two people, a boda boda and his customer died two days ago after they were knocked down by a vehicle on January 1st.
