Five members of the Athletics PNG jumps and multi events training - TopicsExpress

Five members of the Athletics PNG jumps and multi events training squad for the Pacific Games are heading back to Brisbane today for another training block with Coach Philip Newton. The athletes are Patrick Hou and Karo Iga (Jumps) ; Robson Yinambe and Cletus Mosi (decathlon); and Wesley Logorava (jumps and hurdles). Hou , Iga and Mosi are products of the Athletics PNG Talent Identification Programme conducted in Lae and Port Moresby at the end of last year whereas Yinambe and Logorava (both from New Ireland) were identified through the 2012 PNG Games and Athletics National Championships respectively. The athletes will train with Coach Newton at Kingscliff, just over the border into New South wales for just over a month and will return in time for the PNG Games. Athletics PNG President Tony Green said that Hou, Yinambe and Mosi had made good progress this year and were making their third visit to Kingscliff whereas for Iga and Logorava this is their second block of training with Newton. It was important to keep the momentum going with their training after the TIP programme he said, especially for the decathlon because 18 months is a very short time to develop athletes from scratch in so many events at the same time. The programme is being funded through the Go for Gold Programme managed by the PNG Olympic Committee
