Five months ago a litter of 5 day old American Bulldog/Australian - TopicsExpress

Five months ago a litter of 5 day old American Bulldog/Australian Shepherd puppies were relinquished to BCAS because their mother, a purebred American Bulldog, died from a ruptured uterus. I bottle fed them during a time my mother was dying and it was the only bright side to that time in my life. I got to know each in the litter intimately and all but one was adopted. The one that wasnt adopted, Spudster the largest male in the litter, had some characteristics that I felt needed monitoring before I felt comfortable putting him into a forever family. He was the alpha male and Patches was the alpha female. Patches concerned me only a little, but when I met her new dad I felt he was the right owner to be able to keep her under control. She was 8 wks old when she left for her new home. Around 3 mos old Spudster tried the alpha thing with me, but I never let him get away with it. It didnt take long for him to learn who was boss, and today he NEVER shows any sign of aggression to a human being. He does however have food aggression with other dogs. With that being said I do feed him in a group and hes learning how to control his behavior. We havent had a serious issue in about a month. I will let Spudster be adopted if the RIGHT person comes along that I feel he will listen to and be managed in the right way. Patches (Ditka) will be returning to BCAS this afternoon. Im anxious to see what shes all about, and Im confident we will work through her issues. She will live in my home and I will treat her as I do my own personal pack. My backyard is 5 AC fenced with LOTS of interesting things to keep her happy. Submissive peeing and health issue peeing are very different. If I feel she has a health issue I will immediately get her to the vet. If the submissive peeing stops we know it was something in her prior environment that got her upset....like her dad being gone more than normal due to being in the Air Force. Keep you posted. P.S. I just received a PM from Ditkas dad......the missing link in this story is the fact that hes been gone from the family for two weeks.....thats when this bizarre behavior began. Please dont dis the family for having to return Ditka to BCAS. Ditka is a very sensitive girl and needs another dad that can be there for her at all times. Join me in applauding Jeremy and his wife Rachel for being a part of our military that defends our country!
