Five residents of Jason’s District were just made subject of criminal charges for their part in the illegal ATV ride into Recapture Canyon a few months ago. I dont defend their actions--it was wrong for a public official to lead that ride. However, that ride was the result of 7 years of frustration on the part of Jason’s constituents with a BLM restriction that was put in place in 2007, when George W. Bush was President. Just before the ride, Jason was quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune, and his bottom line was blaming President Obama’s administration for failing to build proper relationships with Jason’s constituents. Now Jason was elected in 2008, the same year as President Obama. Don’t you think Jason should take responsibility for not resolving the tension between his constituents and the BLM over Recapture Canyon during the six years he has been in office? If he was representing his constituents rather than just his donors and his party, he would have seen that his duty required him to focus significant effort on resolving the tension over Recapture Canyon BEFORE his constituents became so frustrated that they took matters into their own hands. In the attached video, I outline how Jason and other western state Republicans lost a perfect opportunity to resolve these and other land management issues during the budget crisis of 2013. Bottom line, Jason prioritized fulfilling Republican party objectives over taking care of his constituents. By doing so, he undermined the faith and trust of his constituents in the United States’ government—he failed to live up to his oath of office. https://youtube/watch?v=bbgqvMZUT-U
