Five shots of my local Ruby-throated Hummingbird family this - TopicsExpress

Five shots of my local Ruby-throated Hummingbird family this summer. There are never any males in this one spot I go to for the last three years, only females. To any of the experienced hummingbird watchers out there... Is there a reason you know of that might be causing it? You will notice that most of these pictures show two points of light in the birds eye (also known as a catch-eye shot). The larger of the two reflected points of light is the sun, the smaller a flash. As the sun was almost mid day when I took these shots, I figured I would try out some fill-flash techniques to get rid of the shadows. It sort of worked, but the exposures just never seem right when I use a flash. One of these days I really should learn it properly. Always try and have the sun reflected in the eye of your subject if possible... The catch-eye adds a dimension of realism and impact to wildlife photos. Its not always necessary, or possible, but always keep it in mind.
