Five young women, who were close friends of a murder victim, - TopicsExpress

Five young women, who were close friends of a murder victim, Debra, come together to observe her memory in a spiritual exercise, one year after her passing. While getting ready to pray however, one of the young women Rachel becomes incensed against the murderer, interrupts the ritual, and begins to preach vengeance. One other, Kerra advocates peace. Another, Frances, ascribes some responsibility for the brutal outcome of such incidents to the victims themselves. The girls begin to argue about the merits of their differing perspectives and consequently decide to reenact the circumstances of the murder. Through this experience they not only achieve a fuller understanding of the cont ext that brings about such violence but their subsequent prayers brings them a greater sense of closure and deepen their commitment towards the attainment of peace. In Memoriam came about through the need of playwright Travis Weekes to give a creative response to the murders of young women in our society. The cast comprises five students from the Form Five Theatre Arts Class of the Corinth Secondary School. In Memoriam will be staged this coming Wednesday at the National Cultural Centre as part of the CDFs Theatre Night. Time 7:30pm.
