Flash Flood in USA on Friday, 12 December, 2014 Description Firefighters in Redwood City were called in Thursday afternoon to help evacuate people from a mobile home park who were stranded by flooding. Were just taking out people who can no longer get through because the water has raised up, explained Capt. Nick Dickson of the Redwood City Fire Department. People were coming out, first thinking they were okay, then realizing the water levels have gotten beyond their comfort level. Firefighters used a pickup truck to help at least half a dozen families in the R.C. Mobile Home Park get out of their homes to dry ground. So I was really stressed, a woman named Barbara said as she clutched her dog, Babe. I didnt want to leave but they said youd better! Next door at the Le Mar Mobile Home Park, residents scrambled like busy restaurant valets, trying to get cars out of the flood water. I think we should have a boat here for when it gets this bad, Denise Roldan said looking at the flooding driveway outside her mobile home. Along Fifth Avenue in Redwood City, south of the Bayshore Highway, street flooding was so bad, a kayaker took advantage of it. Well Ive been on this street for about 10 years, and this is the worst Ive seen it, one resident said. Its scary, exclaimed another. The street was closed to traffic, but that didnt stop many drivers from plowing through the wheel deep water. When they come down our street, they speed and it shoots water into our house, a homeowner said as he tried to maintain road blocks and turn cars away. The neighborhood along Fifth Avenue is a trouble spot. It gets a one-two punch with flooding from high tide, and rain. Many said they were glad to have the rain, but not so happy to have it all at once.
