Flashback Friday! Exactly 6 weeks ago, on October 3rd, the elementary school held its annual United Nations day event. The day consisted of a parade of flags during which a second grade reader delivered a speech on United Nations, high school dancers performed a piece, and each grade level sang a song. United Nations day expresses the diversity of the different cultures and nationalities at SAS, but when did this tradition really start? The United Nations traditions started back at the Kings Road campus around the mid 1980’s. Mr. Schunk, the deputy principal of the elementary school who has experienced UN day at Kings Road, expressed that the United Nations event’s developments and changes coincided with the schools advancements and growth; however, the ritual of students wearing a traditional costumes representing the country of their choice remained the same.
