Flashback Friday Number 11: The Steam Hauled Roadside Goods Train in the 1960s, As the era of steam for the Victorian Railways was coming to a close, these locomotives continued on until their last days of operation. During the early 1960s, the sight of seeing Steam hauled trains in South Gippsland were still reasonably common, given the coal facilities present around Korumburra and Wonthaggi. In these 4 images from the Newsrail January 1994 edition, 3 different Victorian Railways steam locomotives are pictured hauling the typical Mixed Goods trains that on many occasions echoed through the region. Each image illustrates the many unique features of the railway line that included many trestle bridges, sharp curves, station facilities and yards and embankments that ventured through the hills and valleys that were situated within the often inhospitable South and West Gippsland landscape.
