Flatulence Sound Response Therapy. (Fart Therapy) I must be - TopicsExpress

Flatulence Sound Response Therapy. (Fart Therapy) I must be careful of all the HIPAA regulations. So the mother of a young man that was born with severe handicaps discovered from his school teacher that he is touching a iPad screen in response to various stimuli on the screen! So exciting because his cognitive skills are very limited. Mom rushes out, buys an iPad style device, and he goes bonkers with the fart cushion program!!!!! The patient, when lying on the sofa, is raising his right elbow, then lowering to the device on the sofa next to him!!!!! It makes a naughty series of fart noises...always different. This young man laughs so hard and so loud! He even screams. Naturally, I add my own fart noises to the mix and he is the one hell of a happy camper. Often times he has mucous in the back of his throat that we cannot reach safely with the suction machine. During his laughter and screams, he clears his throat out properly. I never dreamed patient care could be this damn much fun. I have to limit his FSRT to about 35-45 minutes. He gets so wound up, kicking, screaming, moving all about that he sweats up a storm and I do not want him to over heat. I cannot believe how blessed I am. During his FSRT I think I am in heaven watching a miracle as this young man takes an ambulatory motion on his own as a result of this stimulation. (And yes, I chart FSRT in my nursing notes!) My former nursing classmates and even my family, have not seen me laugh so hard or have so much fun.
