"Flee, Pursue and Fight" Scripture 1 Tim 6-11 12 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. Observation We are encouraged to flee, pursue and fight, somethings we must avoid and run away from, some we must run towards, while others we are to fight for. Paul tells Timothy to: 1. Flee - from pursuing money, material possessions and temporal pleasures. The previous verses to those above, encourage Timothy to develop godliness and with it, contentment. Contentment comes from within and develops as we develop our relationship with Jesus. Like Timothy we need to flee the "love of" money, and in fact, the love of anything that would take us away from God. 2. Pursue - when we flee from something we move towards something else. Timothy was exhorted to pursue those things that would draw him closer to God and make him become more like God. As we pursue faith, love, endurance and gentleness we are hungering after God, trusting in Him more certainly, loving Jesus and our neighbours more sincerely, continuing in our faith more steadfastly and treating each other more respectfully. 3. Fight - we must fight the good fight of faith, realising that it is a cause worth fighting for, living for and dying for. We take hold of our eternal life by living whole heatedly for God. When we live for Him totally, we give to Him our lives in entirety. Faith is not always an easy path, it requires fleeing, pursuing and fighting. We must trust in God for the strength to fight and ensure that both we and others head towards the eternity that God has in store for us. May we flee, pursue and fight, in His strength, today.
