Fleet Master Chief (AW/SW) JoAnn Marie Ortloff Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa Fleet Master Chief (AW/SW) JoAnn Marie Ortloff joined the Navy November 10, 1982. In January 1983, she completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, FL, meritoriously advanced to E-2, and received orders to Air Traffic Control (AC) A School in Millington, TN. Her early tours as an Air Traffic Controller included Naval Outlying Landing Field, San Nicholas Island, California, Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California, Fleet Area and Control Surveillance Facility, Hawaii, Naval Outlying Landing Field San Clemente Island, California, Naval Air Station Lemoore, California and Naval Base Coronado. Aboard the USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74) she was the OC Division Leading Chief and Carrier Air Traffic Control Supervisor. Highlighted by a successful cruise in 2000, the ship earned the first joint Atlantic/Pacific Battle E award. After advancing to Senior Chief, she was appointed as a ships Section Leader and the Training Department Leading Chief. Selected to the Command Master Chief program in 2003, she served as Command Master Chief, USS MILIUS (DDG 69) February 2004-January 2007. After a successful WESTPAC deployment in 2005 and several Fleet wide recognition events that showcased the crews top performance, she accepted orders to U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam in June 2007. During her tour, the hospital served over 27,000 beneficiaries annually, earned numerous command awards, and developed the WESTPAC Medical Alliance between Naval Hospitals Guam, Yokosuka and Okinawa Japan expanding healthcare capabilities in the Pacific. Master Chief Ortloff was selected as Commander, U.S. THIRD Fleet Command Master Chief in August 2009. While assigned, she participated in RIMPAC 10, numerous Fleet Week events in the AOR, and assisted Sailors in preparation for overseas deployments and return. Master Chief Ortloff was selected as the CNE-CNA Fleet Master Chief in May 2012. Graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 100 Blue) in 2002, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course in 2004 (Class 5), KEYSTONE Senior Enlisted Leadership Course in July 2008 and the Executive Medical Department Enlisted Course in March 2009. Master Chief Ortloff was awarded the Captain Joy Bright Hancock Leadership Award in 2000. Personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Good Conduct Medal (7 awards), Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various campaign and service ribbons.
