Flight, rental car, and all hotels printed out and sorted/triple-checked for this upcoming 23 day tour... and I just cant say enough positive stuff about these clients. Open, eager, and basically gave me the keys to do it all up properly. A tour guide dreams of opportunities like this one, and I am every bit as they are to arrive... Dec. 2, 3: Prague. Dec. 4: Salzburg. Dec. 5, 6: Berchtesgaden. Dec. 7,8: Passau. Dec. 9: Schwangau. Dec. 10,11: Munich. Dec. 12,13: Bastogne. Dec. 14: Brussels. Dec. 15: Amsterdam. Dec. 16, 17: Brugge. Dec. 18, 19: Normandy. Dec. 20: Chateau-Thierry. Dec. 21: Landstuhl... capping it off with an overnight stay with our exchange students awesome mother for a good final bit of local and good fun. Christmas markets, glühwein, Mozarts Requiem in the church where he was christened - on the very hour of the anniversary of his death, the most insane and fearsome Christmas (pagan) parades in a famous mountain town - well worth the beating I got last time, Germanys premier boy choir giving a concert in one of Europes most distinguished cathedrals (home to the worlds largest pipe organ), a quaint and secret Christmas market in the woods of Bavaria, the famous castle of Neuschwanstein, and two nights in Munich to cap off the Christmas tour. And weve got some insane delicacies on deck, too... from the premier home for Wiener Schnitzel (in Wien... Vienna) to a foie gras crème brûlée. Then off on an epic modern-era military history tour of Western Europe. In Bastogne during some of the 70th Anniversary Battle of the Bulge opening commemorative activities. Then to Waterloo to learn about the Napoleonic Wars, Napoleons final battle, and its effect on German-French relations. A swing through the Netherlands to one of the largest vehicle and equipment collections of WWII in the world (dwarfs the WWII Museum), before visiting Arnhem - key bridge and area of fighting in Operation Market Garden (made famous in A Bridge Too Far). Then off to Brugge for a bit of a break in the action and some mesmerizing and splendid architecture (fookin Bruges!), with a full day visiting the most bitterly contested area of the Western Front in WWI - Flanders. Well take a pick of a WWI or WWII site of interest (Atlantic Wall or Vimy Ridge), before we arrive in Normandy, with a full day of visits to the beaches, museums, and cemeteries of British, Canadian, American, and German soldiers who fought there. Well wind our way back to Munich via Chateau-Thierry - scene of some bloody fighting in WWI and home of Belleau Wood, where the Marines earned the nickname Devil Dogs (Teufel Hunden) by the Germans. Well then head southeast to the scene of the worlds fiercest battle: Verdun, before we roll into Landstuhl, Germany for the night. Well hope to link up with some Wounded Warrior associated friends there and visit the hospital where American troops are being tended to from injuries sustained in the Middle East, and then well head on into Munich. Complete. Balanced. Historical. Culinary. Cultural. Educational. Hilarious. This is what I do for a living...
