Flipping channels just now, I stumbled across Apollo 13, a show that the great Stephen Flick gave me an opportunity to create and edit sounds for. One of the more subtle things I did on that show - one that I dont even remember being asked to do - was pull many different textures of radio static from the actual transmissions from the real event. NASA provided us with almost all the original recordings, and I listened to all of them. I created a library of NASA Static, which the dialog editors cut around all the transmission voices in the film.
