Flonase Will Go Over the Counter The U.S. Food and Drug - TopicsExpress

Flonase Will Go Over the Counter The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved Flonase® Allergy Relief as an over-the-counter (OTC) allergy treatment. Flonase is a steroid nasal spray that helps treat hay fever. It will be available OTC in early 2015. While many patients may be excited to learn relief will be found with a quick trip to the local pharmacy, there may be unknowns waiting to surprise them. For example, insurance companies may no longer cover prescription Flonase®, or its generic equivalent, once it’s sold OTC. Other prescription nasal steroids are also at jeopardy to not be covered in the future. This can leave an unwanted financial burden on many patients. Flonase may cause nasal bleeding and perforation of the septum or the cartilage between the nostrils. Patients on Flonase should be examined periodically to see if side effects are developing. webmd/news/20140728/otc-flonanse-allergies
