Flooding in Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 26 counties in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend area to support emergency-response operations for communities inundated by heavy rains and flooding. Our law enforcement officers have been involved in many rescues and are currently working an evacuation of over 100 people in Gulf Breeze. 31 vehicles and 13 boats have been deployed so far to assist in the areas in need. According to the National Weather Service, more than 5 inches of rain fell on Pensacola in one hour last night with over 17 inches total falling on Santa Rosa County in the past 30 hours. Rain will continue in the Florida Panhandle today. Farther east, all of the idle-speed, no-wake zones have been activated on the Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers. Rivers affected by heavy rains are expected to rise even higher and crest by the weekend.
