Flooding risk update Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has issued a flood warning for the Usk Estuary for this evenings high tide which may affect a limited number of properties in specific areas in Newport. All properties at risk will receive an automated alert from NRW. If you are registered for this service and have not been contacted then you are not at risk. High tide passed this morning without major incident but residents and businesses are advised to remain vigilant. For further information and advice you can visit naturalresourceswales.gov.uk or telephone Floodline on 0845 988 1188. Information about flood warnings and alerts can be found on the Environment Agency website environmentagency.gov.uk. Our Streetscene service will be patrolling the affected areas and taking appropriate direct remedial action when issues are identified. Gwasted Mawr flood gate is being closed down during the high tides to restrict waterflow into the Crindau Pill area. Lyne Bridge and part of Caerleon Road, near the river, are among the areas being monitored and, if necessary, Lyne Road and a section of Caerleon Road - from the St Julians pub to the Ship Inn - may be closed for a short period this evening until the water level reduces. The council would urge residents to take action themselves to protect their property. It will help where it can but resources are limited.
