Floor Session 3/31 HF2385 - Final Passage This bill adjusts the timelines for complying with the statutes requiring an affidavit of expert review and identification of experts in medical malpractice actions and other malpractice actions against professionals. In an effort to streamline civil court cases and increase efficiencies, one of the changes stipulated that the parties in a lawsuit may not seek discovery from any source before the parties have conferred and prepared a discovery plan. The rile amendment did not take into account the statute in this bill and thereby cut the 180 days of discover that has been mandated the legislature by 50 days. This bill adjust the timelin so that the full 180 days of will apply upon commencement of discovery. I voted Yes The bill passed 61-0 SF1509 - Final Passage This bill designates March 31st as Cesar Chavez Day, to celebrate the growing Latino community in Minnesota. It goes on to lay out the lifetime of achievement that Cesar Chavez lived. I opposed this measure because this is not a proper function of the state. Simply put, there are tens of thousands of Minnesotans and Americans alike that have lived incredibly accomplished lives. There are not enough days in the year to commemorate all those who have done great things. Cesar Chavez did much in his life, much like many others who cannot have a day in their honor. I voted No The bill passed 57-1
