Florence, Italy Keke post no. 3: Ciao, We hung out the last two days and cooked and ate and relaxed. Most of the city is closed on Sunday or Monday. So you end up walking around in circles trying to figure out where to go. We found out most markets and many restaurants are closed on Sunday. So you have to be prepared for that. Today we separated and went to different places. John went to the Galleria Uffizi and I went to look for interesting architecture. I have been to the Uffizi . So I thought John could see it at his own pace.I love old buildings with history and charm. In the U.S. houses are remodeled to look new again or torn down. Not in Italy. Florence and Rome have the most charming ancient dwellings that people are still living in. The insides have been updated, but the outsiders are kept original. Example the building we are living in. Pictured our key!! These are my two favorites. Pictured The home of the Poet Vittoro Vettori who lived in this house his whole life. Built 150 years ago.The second picture was a few doors down and was built in 1580. Holy Cow 1580. Cooking in Italy. Im having way to much fun cooking in my Kitchen. Pictured is last nights dinner preparation. Chicken Brest stuffed with a layer of prosciutto and soft ripe pecorino cheese. Finished with a white wine and Italian butter sauce. . Im going to need two seats on the trip home. Favorite cooking finds. The olive oil is very different. I always thought I purchased quality extra virgin oil. I would go for the high end brands and it didnt matter. Because it all tasted the same. Now Im in love. The evoo is green and has so much flavor. Alma Z has been pouring on everything, but cereal. On my second bottle. Small purple fresh, fresh artichokes are on the menu almost every meal I cook. Remove the outside leaves and peel the stem. Cook and dress with half a lemon, the wonderful olive oil and toscana spices Toscana spices are a combination of rosemary and sage. I was never a big user of these two spices together. It is used in most dishes here with good results. So its a new find for me. Guess I may give up the big bottle of oregano that I use on everything at home. Did I tell you about our neighbor upstairs. She plays the piano ever day and it it a treat. We think she gives lessons also. The students are very advanced except on Tuesday. That night it is a child who is just getting started. Not good. The BBC news goes on.
