Florence left nursing defeat Florence A 3 v 5 Newcastle Town Castle as usual were straight on the attack but were re-buffed by a strong Florence side who weren’t ready to buckle under the pressure. It took a full 15 minutes before the deadlock was broken by Alex Smith who smashed home a 30 yard free-kick which screamed past the flailing arms of the home keeper. The second goal came quickly though as Elliot Darlington tried his luck from the edge of the box following a lay off from Owen Wilshaw and his shot took a deflection on its way in. The Blues looked in total control but were pegged back when MacKenzie Burke continued his hot streak in front of goal by finding the top corner with a left foot effort for Florence. The two goal gap was soon back in place as Owen Wilshaw raced down the right and pulled the ball back to Tommy Beamon whose cross was expertly guided home by top scorer Zach Lundstrum. H-T 1-3 The second half was end to end until a long ball was controlled on the edge of the box by Owen Wilshaw before he planted the ball left-footed into the bottom right-hand corner for 4-1 to Castle. Although they were now chasing the game Florence put up a sterling effort and got a goal back, again through MacKenzie Burke before they really stepped up the pace and pulled it back to 4-3. The Blues could see the danger and simply stepped up a gear to see the game off and the victory was wrapped up by Owen Wilshaw from close range as he followed up a Zach Lundstrum effort.
