Florentine Autumn There are three reasons why Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year in Italy. 1. Sagre, sagre everywhere. Festivals popping up all over Italy! In the autumn, sagre, or festivals many celebrating local foods and or wine, on abound, I adore these sagres! They’re a fantastic way to experience typical regional produce and emerge in their local cultures. In autumn, there’s a festival for every taste: wine, chestnuts, chocolate, truffles, porcini mushrooms, fish, polenta even potatoes! Truffles, known as tartufi in Italian, are mushrooms so rare and unique-tasting, they are considered a delicacy. Of the two kinds, white truffles and black truffles, whites are considered the finer. Now is the season for white truffles. Winter is the season for black truffles—and black truffle festivals! In my Jt Caffè last week-end we served a special menú with mushrooms and truffle dishes celebrating this marvelous season. 2. It’s harvest time! in ITALY! Another long awaited sagres this time of year occurs at harvest time. Olives are harvested in the autumn, olive oil is produced and participating in a harvest—or even just tasting the result!—is a fantastic experience. Tuscan olive oil is the result of a product made from special varieties of olive trees cultivated for over thousands of years on our unique and special soil, which has been preserved and looked after manually through the years ultimately generating a superb product of choice. Other foods being harvested now include almonds, chestnuts, white truffles as well as vegetables like arugula, broccoli, potatoes, and zucchini. 3. AND lastly gorgeous fall colors In October Tuscany shows off a range of beautiful colors: from buttery yellow to amber orange and burgundy red with leaves beginning to turn brilliant hues all across the Florentine countryside: colors which so strongly have always been sources of inspiration for me as you can see in my Fall-Winter Collection. jennifertattanelli.it/fw14_collection/
