Florida Guard Team Thirteen years ago, on this day, our nation was attacked. Nearly three thousand innocent lives were lost in calculated, ruthless acts that forever changed our nation and the world. We fly the American flag at half-staff each year in honor of those who died, and in recognition of those who bravely and selflessly responded to the call of duty. On this Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, let us all take a moment to reflect on those who perished, their families, and on the extraordinary acts of courage that we witnessed that day. Since September of 2001, nearly 17,300 Florida National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have mobilized for deployment around the world. Eighteen made the ultimate sacrifice. Let us never, ever forget.
