Florida Institute of Technology Interns Receive Certificates: The kick-off presentation at last nights City Council meeting was the awarding of certificates to Florida Institute of Technology Interns Cory Voce and Julie Buskirk. FPD partnered with the FITs College of Psychology and Liberal Arts to launch the internship program with the police department last January and Cory Voce was the first intern (Spring 2014 Semester) while Julie Buskirk was the second (Summer 2014). In addition to being Forensic Science majors at Florida Tech, Cory played tight-end for the Panthers football team, and Julie was recently on active duty in the Marine Corps with combat assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan. FIT interns are required to serve a minimum of 160 hours and learn about the law enforcement profession and the criminal justice industry as a whole. They were also required to complete academic assignments in addition to assignments given them by FPD personnel. The City Council took a few moments at the beginning of their meeting last night to recognize the students for their accomplishment by allowing Chief Touchberry to present them with certificates of program completion. Cory and Julie are pictured below when they were first welcomed to Fellsmere and last night when they received their certificates. Congratulations Cory and Julie! While we will miss the both of them, we look forward to our next intern beginning in the Fall semester.
