Florida Wing Members, Registration for the 2013 Florida Wing Public Affairs Academy is now underway! With over 60 days before the event and more than 60% of the initial seats have already been reserved, the response has been tremendous. We have decided to expand the number of seats available in the academy. Don’t wait, avoid the typical last minute rush by reserving your place today. What: 2013 Florida Wing Public Affairs Academy. When: 7-8 September, 2013, Saturday 0800-1700, Sunday 0800-1400. Where: City of Orlando Emergency Operations Center, located at Orlando Executive Airport. Why: To give members the skills and knowledge needed to bring increased awareness of CAP in their communities. This course will also satisfy the training requirements for the PAO specialty track ratings. You will not want to miss this opportunity to enhance your abilities to create greater public recognition for CAP in your community. This year’s academy is better than ever. The traditional PowerPoint slide decks have been replaced with hands-on exercises to make learning fun and to ensure you go home with a set of tools that you are confident using. Your will learn to; create effective information releases with big impact by specifically targeting key audiences; develop quality visual content which is more effective than written words on mobile platforms; use multiple media channels such as print, broadcast, digital and social to expand reach; create a good relationship with local media by providing quality content in a timely manner; use effective interviewing skills to deliver message or create multi-media content such as podcasts; leverage your unit’s activity to strengthen fund-raising, recruiting & retention, and community outreach efforts. Typically, over half of the academy participants are non-PAOs. Public Affairs is a key element for success whether your primary mission is emergency services, aerospace education, or cadet programs. The training is ideal for any member interested in helping their home squadron gain visibility. Come join your fellow CAP members for a weekend of valuable training and much, much more!
