Florida Women’s Reception Center Celebrates Black History Month and Remembers Our History Florida Women’s Reception Center (FWRC) staff gathered together recently in observance of Black History Month. Region II Director Eric Lane Sr. was the keynote speaker for the event, highlighting benchmarks throughout his career as well as those attained by notable African-Americans over the years. The theme was The Golden Jubilee of the Civil Rights Act and had a particular focus on the struggles leading to progress in our society. These struggles were captured in a poem read by Captain Rossin describing the “Tragedy to Triumph” of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama on September 15, 1963. The event was attended by FWRC staff members along with representation from the Region II Office; Mr. Spears, Assistant Regional Director, Mr. Riedl, Regional Warden, and Mr. Edwards, Correctional Services Administrator.
