Floridians, how many of you know that medical marijuana is already legal? Do you think we should make a constitutional amendment to legalize something that is already legal? A constitutional amendment bypasses our legislative system and our voice to make changes as needed. Missing in this amendment are the details. Details, details, details. Those pesky little details! Like who can grow it? Who can dispense it? The amendment makes allowance for big commercial growers and for lawyers to regulate the dispensing of this. You wont be able to grow your own marijuana. Did you know that? The lawyers will have a big say. Oh...right...it was a lawyer who submitted this amendment to the ballot. The lawyers stand to make a lot of money off this. Im voting no so that our legislators can do their job. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Its already legal: On June 16, 2014, Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed Senate Bill 1030, also known as the “Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act of 2014.” The legislation legalized low-tetrahydrocannabinol cannabis, such as the strain Charlotte’s Web, for medical patients suffering from cancer or a physical medical condition that chronically produces symptoms of seizures, such as epilepsy, or severe and persistent muscle spasms. The law requires physician approval and for the potential user’s physician to determine that “no other satisfactory alternative treatment options exist for that patient.” SB 1030 also authorized medical centers to conduct research on low-tetrahydrocannabinol (low-THC) cannabis.[4] The measure will become effective on January 1, 2015. Gov. Scott said, As a father and grandfather, you never want to see kids suffer. I am proud to stand today with families who deserve the ability to provide their children with the best treatment available[5]
