SB1400 proponents claim SB1400 will pass both remaining committees and the full Senate vote 26/14. The following Republican Senators need to hear your opposition to SB1400: Senator Bill Galvano (R-Chairman): 850-487-5026; [email protected] (Ask him to not agenda SB1400) (Galvano voted against SB1400 in Education committee) Senator Aaron Bean (R): 850-487-5004; [email protected] Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto (R): 850-487-5030; [email protected] (Benacquisto voted against SB1400 in Education Committee) Senator Nancy Detert (R): 850-487-5028; [email protected] Senator Dorothy Hukill (R): 850-487-5008; [email protected] Senator John Legg (R): 850-487-5017; [email protected] (Legg voted for SB1400 in Education Committee) Senator Garrett Richter (R): 850-487-5023; [email protected] (Richter voted for SB1400 in Judiciary Committee) Senator David Simmons (R): 850-487-5010; [email protected] (Simmons voted for SB1400 in Education Committee) Senator John Thrasher (R): 850-487-5006; [email protected] (Trasher voted for SB1400 in Judiciary Committee) Call Democrats if you have time: Senator Bill Montford (D-Vice Chair): 850-487-5003; [email protected] Senator Dwight Bullard (D): 850-487-5039; [email protected] (Bullard voted for SB1400 in Education Committee) Senator Joseph Abruzzo (D): 850-487-5025; [email protected] Senator Maria Lorts Sachs (D): 850-487-5034; [email protected] (Sachs voted for SB1400 in Education Committee) Talking Points: Up to 5,000 Legal Students could be displaced. If legal students are not displaced, overcrowding could occur as Legislators will not raise taxes to pay for expanded capacity for the many new illegal alien students. The fiscal cost of HB851 is estimated at $21.7 million and the fiscal cost of SB1400 is estimated at $22.7 million. The wording of the bill is deceitful in order to circumvent the federal prohibition against offering reduced rates to a certain group without offering the reduced rates to all citizens of USA. The deceitful wording uses terminology of tuition waivers rather than in-state tuition rate. The impetus for Republicans to support the benefit seems to be a distorted belief that Governor Rick Scotts sagging poll numbers will be bolstered. Republican demographers should not trump citizens and principles. This is not just a bad deal, it is pandering by an outright giveaway of college slots. Remember how Republican Leadership erected every possible blockade when citizens demanded Florida enact E-Verify. Remember too how the Obama Administration has all but abandoned immigration enforcement. Legal students and citizens dont get any enforcement in return. They lose THEIR DREAMS. April 3, 2014
