Grace Cottage Family Health is located at 185 Grafton Road (Route 35), Townshend. The national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine, ideally by October. An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and lessen the chance that you will spread it to others. People over age 65 or with any chronic disease, such as diabetes or asthma, have a higher risk of contracting the flu and are especially urged to get a flu shot. Only one shot is needed this year for protection against three different flu viruses, including H1N1 and seasonal flu. It takes about two weeks after getting the flu shot for it to be fully effective. The flu shot cannot be given to anyone with an allergy to eggs or latex or anyone with a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. For more information about flu shots or the flu in general, visit the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website (cdc.gov), the Vermont Department of Health website (healthvermont.gov), or call the Vermont helpline at 2-1-1.
