Flu/cold prevention- I turned to herbalism in the 80s because of overuse of antibiotics in my childhood and allergies. I eventually opened the only while herb store in northern Ohio. Herbs and essential oils brought a much more proactive remedy. See, antibacterial soaps and sprays kill all the good flora that are your first line of defense against virus and bacteria. They live on your skin, sinuses, respiratory and digestive systems. Its like a delicate ecosystem. We dont need to eradicate all germs with antibiotics or antibacterial spray because soap and water does enough of a good job. In this time of cold and flu season preventive measures such as hand washing frequently and use of essential oils such as tea tree help protect you from these seasonal illnesses. If you put essential oil of tea tree on a tissue and keep it in a baggie in your purse or pocket and take it out and sniff it occasionally its highly antiviral, and it helps protect you when youre in public from airborne virus. You can also make sprays for surfaces. In addition to taking increased doses of vitamin C and zinc. Using a neti pot and saline sprays daily keeps the sinuses clear of dust, allergens and impurities as well as hydrated and moist. This prevents drying and cracking where virus can get in. Using antibacterial sprays and soaps, in the air and on the skin actually can lower your immune defenses and shouldnt be used on the daily. In addition to causing dermatitis eczema and making you more prone to skin infections. More friendly products to clean with are; hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and baking soda and essential oils. Stay tuned for additional info and classes starting in January :) - Marianne Goldweber
