Flume’s Team Gets Real at Electronic Music Conference - TopicsExpress

Flume’s Team Gets Real at Electronic Music Conference 2014 This year’s Electronic Music Conference had a lot of topics bubbling to the surface. Ranging from “What a manager can – and can’t – do for you” to the more personally relevant “The WSJ or TMZ? What style of media does dance music need,” this year’s conference likely struggled with the sheer amount of new innovations and changes to the scene this year. Perhaps one of the most talked about producers this year, according to Porter Robinson at least, was Flume. Although he has released just a few tracks and remixes since his debut album, his brand has continued to perform brilliantly, not to mention his work with What So Not and collaborations with Skrillex and Dillon Francis. So how does he do it? He’s not alone. Every major artist has a team behind them, taking on the day to day things and working with other management and press companies to help spread word about their clients. In a panel titled “Meet the team behind the Flume phenomenon,” six members of Flume’s team – Nathan McLay, Ed Sholl, Jarrod Bird, Jay Ryves, Claire Collins, and Latane Hughes – and Flume himself sat down for nearly an hour to detail their success. Four years ago, no one knew the name Flume. Today, it’s impossible to imagine the Australian dance music industry without him. We talk to Harley Streten himself and the power team behind him about how a guy from Manly became the most influential Australian electronic artist of this century.
